Abstract

Gisela Konopka, world-renowned social group work and expert on adolescence, died on December 9, 2003, at the age of 93 years and 10 months. Her friends, colleagues, and students will rememher her as someone who had the ability, whether in a small classroom, a large auditorium, or a prison reception area, to create an atmosphere that convinced others that change was possible. This narrative is a reflection on an article the author wrote in 2002 for this Journal on writing a biography of a living hero.
