Abstract

As a geriatric social worker, the author spent over a decade working with individuals and families as they prepared for the end of life. She was convinced that she knew all that was about to happen, only to discover that with her mother's death she had missed the moments of life for seeing only the end. This narrative gives voice to an "Aha moment," revealing the complexity of life beyond the roles occupeid by an individual.
