Abstract

This article is an account of family-of-origin issues regarding sexual abuse and sexual assault experienced by the author in her childhood. The article relates her practice of school social work and reflects on her own experiences in school. The story begins with her first job after graduate school in the 1980s. All names have been changed to protect identities.

Author Biography

Judy D. Berglund, Western Illinois University

I am an assistant professor of social work.  I recieved my MSW from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1983 and practiced school social work in Illinois and Michigan and worked as a coorindator of services for children with a mental illness in Michigan.  I recieved my PhD in social sciences from Michigan State University in 2004.  I have taught in Michigan and Illinois at both the BSW and MSW levels.
