Abstract

The author, a cisgender (i.e., not transgender) white gay male, describes his experience as a curriculum consultant on an HIV-prevention intervention for young transgender women.  In spite of being well-read on the subject of the perils of nonaffiliated researchers doing sensitive research within oppressed populations, he unwittingly commits a gaffe that is illustrative of those very perils.
