Abstract

The ethnic identities of practitioners can have an immense influence on the ability to develop meaningful and productive relationships with clients served, particularly if unacknowledged. Throughout this narrative, the author reflects on this notion through the lens of her experience as a young, white female facilitating a group in a correctional setting of minority males with current or past gang affiliation. The benefits of increasing self-awareness and infusing cultural humility into clinical interactions are explored.
