Abstract

As the author, I reflect on my education and social work practice experience as an English as a Second Language (ESL) user and how inclusiveness has influenced my practice experience.

Author Biography

Karen Lok Yi Wong, Providence Healthcare; University of British Columbia

Karen Lok Yi Wong was trained in social policy for MA at the University of York, the United Kingdom, and social work for MSW at UBC, Canada. She is a registered social worker in BC, Canada, and has been practicing in diverse settings such as settlement service agencies, community senior services, long-term care, and the hospital. She is a translator and interpreter (English / Chinese – Cantonese, Mandarin) and is an associate member of the Society of Translators and Interpreters BC. She is also a long-term volunteer of Alzheimer's Society as the family support group facilitator and workshop speaker as well as active in the BC Association of Social Workers Multicultural and Anti-racist Committee and Seniors Community of Practice.
